چکیده

The production of carboxylic acids by partial wet oxidation of alkali lignin at elevated temperatures and pressures was studied experimentally. Two different heteropoly acids, phosphotungstic acid (H₃PW12O40) and phosphomolybdic acid (H₃PMo12O40), were used to catalyze the oxidation of lignin under hydrothermal conditions. Factors influencing the total yield of carboxylic acids formed during the partial oxidation of lignin were investigated. Formic, acetic and succinic acids were the major products identified. Of the two catalysts used, phosphomolybdic acid gave the most promising results, with carboxylic acid yields and lignin conversions of up to 45% and 95%, respectively.

Catalytic oxidation of toluene over LaBO3 (B= Fe, Mn and Co) and LaCo0.7B′0.3O3 (B′= Fe and Mn) perovskite-type

In this paper, LaBO3 perovskite type catalyst formulations were prepared by sol-gel auto combustion method using citric acid as the fuel. Activity of catalysts was tested in catalytic oxidation of toluene as a model of volatile organic compounds. LaCoO3 perovskite formulation showed the highest activity among LaBO3 (Fe, Mn and Co) perovskite catalysts. So, LaCoO3 perovskite based catalyst was s...

Dehydration of Glycerol over High Surface Area Γ-alumina Supported Heteropoly Acid Catalysts

Dehydration of glycerol was performed over heteropoly acids (HPA), viz., silicotungstic acid (H-SiW), phosphotungstic acid (H-PW), and phosphomolybdic acid (H-PMo), supported high surface area γ-alumina (HSAI-S25) catalysts. Various physico-chemical studies of these supported catalysts indicate high dispersion of the active (HPA) species on the support surface. It was observed that the catalyst...

Influence of Vanadium Location in Titania Supported Vanadomolybdophosphoric Acid Catalysts and Its Effect on the Oxidation and Ammoxidation Functionalities

Titania supported vanadomolybdophosphoric acid (VMPA) catalysts with vanadium in different positions, incorporated into the molybdophosphoric acid structure by substituting for molybdenum and cation exchanged on the molybdophosphoric acid surface, were synthesized. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, TPR, XPS, and ESR techniques. The FT-IR and Raman spectral anal...

A two-step approach for the catalytic conversion of glucose to 2,5-dimethylfuran in ionic liquids

Lignocellulosic biomass is an attractive resource for producing transportation fuels, and consequently novel approaches are being sought for transforming the lignin and cellulosic constituents of biomass to fuels or fuel additives. Glucose, the monomer of cellulose, is a good starting material for exploring such chemistries. We report here the results of an investigation aimed at identifying ca...

Separation of Lignin from Corn Stover Hydrolysate with Quantitative Recovery of Ionic Liquid.

Abundant lignocellulosic biomass could become a source of sugars and lignin, potential feedstocks for the now emergent bio-renewable economy. The production and conversion of sugars from biomass have been well-studied, but far less is known about the production of lignin that is amenable to valorization. Here we report the isolation of lignin generated from the hydrolysis of biomass dissolved i...
